Before you get started

As part of the application process we carry out credit checks on all applicants to see if we can provide you with a mortgage. Our check will not appear on your credit file at this stage of your application. We will tell you just before the credit check takes place so you can decide if you want to proceed.

Before you start, please confirm that:

-all applicants consent to a credit check Help

We will check your credit history as part of the mortgage application process.

If any discrepancies are highlighted on your credit report, you could be refused a mortgage.

Discrepancies could be late or missed payments, disputes with lenders and even identity theft. You can check your credit report before you apply for a mortgage to make sure it's correct.

-the property to be mortgaged is habitable and provides suitable security Help

The property you want to mortgage must be fit to live in before a mortgage can be agreed. This means it must be watertight and have running water, mains electric, a basic kitchen and functional indoor bathroom.

We cannot lend to anyone under the age of 18 – all mortgage applicants must be aged 18 or over.
